Representatives from the two manufacturers, Welch Allyn and Littmann, will be available during Infoquest on August 30th and during the Activities Fair on September 8th to answer questions and demonstrate the use of their equipment. It's a nice way to meet with the manufacturers and clarify a lot of common questions and concerns.

A diagnostic set, a stethoscope, sphygmomanometers and a neurology kit. The equipment has been pre-selected to include instruments appropriate for doctors and medical students. The equipment on the list has been approved by the Dean of Students. Your first year financial aid includes an allowance for this equipment purchased at the sale prices. You will start using the equipment in the winter quarter in the first year, and in the summer by those working on ISP or NIH research projects. Yes. We encourage you to listen to the stethoscopes and handle the diagnostic equipment to decide what best meets your needs and personal preferences. Come to the Instruments Counter as often as you like until you feel comfortable making a decision. All our staff are trained in the specialized knowledge needed to answer your questions.

We encourage you to take your time before making a final decision, but we also advise you to come in well before the deadline on Friday, September 15th to avoid lines and waiting. Keep in mind that everyone will have the same breaks and lunches, so please don't wait until the last minute if you need some personal attention.

In case your Welch Allyn, Tycos or Littmann equipment breaks or malfunctions, we will either repair it or send it to the manufacturer to have it repaired. In the meantime, we'll loan you one of ours! The program lasts the entire four years you are in medical school, so you'll never have to worry about being caught without your instruments. The Repair / Loaner program only applies to equipment purchased during the Annual Instrument Sale at the Bookstore, and it doesn't cover theft or lost parts. This service is unique to the UCSD Bookstore and not available with on-line vendors.
